84th Infantry, Regimental Color. Composed of men from Blair, Bedford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Bradford, Columbia, Cameron, Dauphin, Westmoreland, Philadelphia, Clearfield, Indiana, and Wayne counties, the 84th was organized November 22, 1861 under the direction of Colonel William G. Murray. The second regimental color was received sometime after November 1862, and was possibly carried until the unit was mustered out of service in June 1865.

84th Infantry, State Color. Composed of men from Blair, Bedford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Bradford, Columbia, Cameron, Dauphin, Westmoreland, Philadelphia, Clearfield, Indiana, and Wayne counties, the 84th was organized November 22, 1861 under the direction of Colonel William G. Murray. The regiment received the state color on December 21, 1861, and it was given to Color-Sergeant Edward Stokes. After the battle of Kernstown on March 23, 1862, a soldier counted 31 bullet holes in the flag. In early November, 1862, three captains of the 84th went to Harrisburg to return the battered state color, and thus it retired from service. In January 1865 the 84th merged with the 57th PA and served until it was mustered out of service in June 1865.

Murray. The first regimental color was presented to the Colonel around December 21, 1861, when the state color was presented. When three officers of the regiment went to Harrisburg in November 1862 to return the state color, they took this regimental color and presented it to the governor. The regiment was mustered out of service in June 1865.
